  • Dear Parents, Families and Students:

     

    Indiana Governor, Eric Holcomb and Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction, Dr. Jennifer McCormick provided updates on the future of this school year in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. They have ordered that all Indiana school buildings will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. While this is difficult information for all of us to hear, it is in the best interest of our students, staff, families, and community to prioritize everyone’s health and safety.

    SELF School students and staff will continue with the current e-learning schedule of Mondays, Wednesdays, and Friday as e-learning days and Tuesdays and Thursdays as waiver days. We will conduct e-learning on Monday, April 13, 2020 because that was a snow make up day that we are required to be in session.  We will not have e-learning on Monday, May 25, 2020 in observance of Memorial Day.  The last e-learning day for students will be Wednesday May 27, 2020 as per the SELF calendar. 

    Each school district will continue to provide breakfast and lunch “grab and go” bags but you will need to monitor the district website since they may modify how that will be done for the remainder of the school year. 

    VCS School Nutrition is moving from daily meal distribution to once per week distribution beginning on Friday April 3, 2020 to improve safety and convenience for families and staff. Every Friday, children ages 18 and under will receive 10 free “take and bake” meals including 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches. Children must be present to receive meals. These meals are available on Fridays from 11:00 A.M.-12:30 P.M. in the parking lot between Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Thomas Jefferson Elementary. 

    As we continue with the remainder of the school year in this fashion, I encourage all of our students to actively engage with their teachers. During this unprecedented time, communication between you, your child, and your child’s teachers is the key to success. Teachers are available via email during normal school hours and are here to help your child continue to achieve. There are still more questions to be answered, and the PCES administrative team are working diligently throughout this fluid situation to provide you with as many details as possible. In the meantime, I am thankful for the families, colleagues, and community organizations who continue to put the needs, health, and safety of our students first. While this has been a trying time, it is also humbling to watch our community grow together and support each other when we all need it the most. Together, we will get through this.  Stay safe.

    Closing of Porter County Schools due to COVID-19

     

     

    Board Meeting that was scheduled for June 2, 2020 has been rescheduled for June 5, 2020. 

    Executive session will be 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

    Public session will start at 9:45 a.m.

    This board meeting will be held at PCES and NOT a virtual session.
